The wait is finally over! The trailer of Diljit Dosanjh’s highly awaited film Soorma is out. Written and directed by Shaad Ali, Soorma is a biopic on the life of Indian hockey player Sandeep Singh. The movie will trace the life journey of ex-captain of Indian Hockey team. Diljit, who plays the titular role of Sandeep in the biopic, has been treating us with several posters and teasers. In the trailer, Diljit’s transformation as Hockey player Sandeep Singh is beyond praise.

Diljit took to his Twitter handle to unveil the trailer and tweeted,”#Soorma Trailer .. Agar Acha Lagge Toh Plz Share.” The gripping trailer begins with voice-over of Diljit Dosanjh and is heard saying, “Bachpan se meri aur Hockey ki kabhi bani hi nahi.” He clashes with Preet played by Taapsee Pannu which in a kind inspires him to start playing hockey and score a goal for the country. The trailer proceeds with the captions, “On 22nd August 2006 India lost a champion” when Sandeep Singh gets accidentally shot by a RPF jawan in a train. He was forgotten by his country and abandoned by his love but when a champion died, a legend was born – this is what Soorma is all about. Needless to say, the trailer will keep you on the edge of your seat. Indian Hockey player Sandeep Singh also attended the trailer launch event.

Soorma is the story of the triumph of the human spirit, about a player, who made headlines for his miraculous comeback after facing a near death experience through sheer determination, hard work and unrelenting passion for the sport.

Storyline
This is an inspiring true story of the triumph of the human spirit, about a player who faced a near death experience when he was at his peak but emerged victorious by his sheer determination, hard work and unrelenting passion for the sport. Sandeep Singh, a penalty corner specialist in the Indian Hockey team from Shahbad, Haryana made headlines when he was hit in the spine by an accidental gunshot while travelling on a train to join the national team that was to fly to Germany for the World Cup in 2006. The injury left him paralyzed, with the medical community giving him a slim chance of ever walking again. However, not only did Sandeep recover from it but he also made a comeback and re-established himself as the best drag-flicker, going on to captain the Indian national hockey team in January 2009.
Soorma, an upcoming biopic made on legendary Hockey player Sandeep Singh Singh's life journey is all set to release on July 13, 2018. The film stars Diljit Dosanjh and Taapsee Pannu in the lead roles.

Sandeep Singh is a legendary Hockey player and the ex-Captain of the Indian National Hockey Team and he has been hailed as one of the world' most dangerous drag-flickers of all time with drag speeds of over 145 km/hr which led to his nickname, ‘Flicker Singh’. His inspiring story has had the makers keen to bring his life on the silver screen. Taapsee will be seen playing Diljit's onscreen love interest in the movie.

Talking about his experience while shooting for Soorma, Diljit had earlier told DNA After Hrs, "It’s a great responsibility playing a real-life character because the person has reached a certain position after undergoing a lot of things. When Shaad Ali (director) approached me, I knew that Singh was the captain of the Indian hockey team, but I wasn’t aware about his journey. (Singh was almost paralysed and on wheel chair for two years of his life after a shooting accident. He recovered from that grave injury and established himself again in the team). I was shocked to know how such a person not only survived, but also recovered from a serious injury and was back as the team’s captain! I thought to myself if I was in that position, I wouldn’t have been able to do that. That aspect was a huge kick for me — Iss bande ne kaise survive kiya, and created a world record!"
